The Greater Houston Society of Echo and Vascular (GHSEV) kicked off the new year with an outstanding educational meeting, bringing together over 60 attendees both in person and virtually. The event was a resounding success, fostering an engaging environment for professionals eager to enhance their knowledge and skills.

The evening began with two exceptional sonographers, Allison Droddy and Ashleigh Fisher from THI, who presented fascinating case studies that set the stage for the session. Their insightful discussions provided valuable learning opportunities and sparked thoughtful conversations among attendees.
Following the case presentations, Dr. Bindu Chebrolu (HMH) delivered an in-depth lecture on ultrasound-related artifacts. Her presentation highlighted key principles to help distinguish real structures from artifacts:

Real structures:
- Have distinct edges
- Exhibit independent motion that aligns with the cardiac cycle
- Follow anatomical boundaries
Artifacts:
- Appear linear with poorly defined borders
- Lack independent motion and instead move with the real reflector
- Have no clear attachments and often extend beyond anatomical planes
Dr. Chebrolu also shared practical strategies for minimizing artifacts by adjusting imaging techniques, emphasizing the importance of:
- Examining structures in multiple planes
- Modifying imaging depth to optimize visualization
A special thank you to GE Optison for their generous sponsorship, which helped make this educational event possible.
